Confession of an impatient driver - is cycling on the road legal?

I must admit that i’m not the most patient driver.. but i think those who cycle on the main road are really asking for it.. won’t pity them if they are caught up in an accident.. i’m not being racist here but especially in the night, banglas would ride their bicycle on the main road as if they were their own.. especially for drivers like us who want to make a right turn..would have some unexpecting cyclist poping out. dam irritating.

so is it legal for cyclist to cycle on the main road? i think it is legal provided they have helmet and flashing light on the back.. i’ve also read court ruling saying drivers who knock down a cyclist by accident would not be fully liable if the cyclist do not have the safety features with them. so what happen if i accidently knock down a bangla with nothing on him to make him more obvious on the road?

As a driver i hate the following..
1. taxis who suddenly stop infront of u without signaling..
2. drivers who hog the right lane when it is used for overtaking.
3. driver who are on the right lane traveling at 90km and think they are very fast already..(no matter how much u use light to signal they still won’t give way) - even thou cutting lane is from the right, i’m cutting more on the left now.
4. drivers who can’t decide which lane they want to take… driving on the line in between 2 lanes..
5. drivers who are obviously unfamiliar and looking for his way but still insist on driving on the right lane.

“If Tomorrow Never Comes”

May 19th, 2008 by stuartong
Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She’s lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way
I feel About her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she’s my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
‘Cause I’ve lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there’s no second chance to tell her how I feel
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she’s my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you’re thinking of
If tomorrow never comes …
Meaningful as always…

Random thoughts after reading too much marketing notes!

May 1st, 2008 by stuartong
Mass-marketing is like throwing a net in the sea, trying to catch as much fish as possible. Segmentation-Targeting-Position (STP) is like using a fishing hook, making use of the bait to lure potential fish up. Bait may be regarded as your marketing mix (4P’s) to lure the fish (customers) hence resulting in profit.
Why is there a shift from mass-marketing to segmentation marketing?
Mass-marketing is good because it lets you catch a lot of customers. Like throwing a net in the big sea. But unfortunately due to more pollution/noise (others competitor’s advertising) what you net out from the sea  might consist of 80% junk or other fishes may be too small or the fish is not the kind you want Hence it is inefficient fishing technique.
However, segmentation may prove to be more effective as you are able to identify your market by it’s characteristics, which in this analogy means you are able to tell what kind of fish swims in which area of the sea. So in knowing the fish characteristics, you will be able to use the right bait (4P’s) for the right fish. This will ultimately result in more efficient fishing.
Is STP process sequential just like normative approach?
STP is a normative approach. In reality, marketers fine tune the process by rearranging STP in a cyclical manner. This is because market is ever changing, it is not static hence fine tuning to suit the market is more appropriate for company’s long term survival. For example, Nike would set out how to position their product first, then identify their target segments. And not segmenting the market first then target it and position the product.

The darker side of interest rate cuts.

January 28th, 2008 by stuartong
I’ve decided to explore the risk of Fed rates cut on inflation and came about more questions rather than answers. Is the Fed rate cuts, a Short-term solution with a Long term problem? Well you see the Federal Reserve surprised Wall Street earlier this week by cutting its fed funds short-term interest rate target by three-quarters of a percentage point, to 3.5 percent. The move had the effect of reducing rates on mortgages and home equity loans, and reassured investors that the Fed will do what it can to spur economic activity as long as the threat of recession looms. Was it out of desperation or a quick push before things get worse?
Well the Rate cuts is in hope to stimulate the economy, by allowing banks to lend more to the consumer or business for expansion. This is coupled by the stimulus package from the Government, which would mean taxpayers could get rebates of up to $800 if single, or $1600 if married. Such Fiscal Policy only applies for low income earners. With consumers expecting higher inflation and possible recession, will they be willing to spend more or save it? The scenario is such that the most likely they are going to save it. Fundratecrisis
Looking at past datas, the Feds would usually tighten their rates during a crisis. However, the situation is different now as we are facing a "credit crunch" . The only way to ease it is to increase the money supply - which is by cutting Fed Rates.

Take in mind that, cutting rates means inflation in the future, we will not be able to see the immediate effect of the Monetary Policy. I’ve attempted to plot Inflation rates against the Fed Rates.

Graph
We can see a relation between rate cuts and Inflation. During Alan Greenspan period, inflation was pretty much well controled when Fed rates are high.

US VS UK VS Euro interest rates - the gap is widening.Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) — European Central Bank President Jean- Claude Trichet said he’s committed to fighting inflation, attempting to quash speculation he’ll follow the U.S. Federal Reserve in cutting interest rates after stocks plunged.
The Fed has limited amunination, how many more percentage can they cut? But as much as Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke might like to keep the economy rolling by slashing interest rates, it’s not clear how much room he’ll have to do so. Two factors complicate the outlook for further interest-rate cuts: the hefty losses in the financial sector that are making banks less eager to lend money, and the prospect that lower rates will chase overseas investors away from the dollar, lowering the value of the greenback and boosting inflation. Adding to the case against deep rate cuts is the widespread perception that it was the Fed’s rate-cutting zealousness after the last recession that led to the housing bubble that now threatens to derail the economy.  Can the short-term boost, to ease the credit crunch, proves to be a long term problem of future inflation? Is the Monetary Policy with the Fiscal Policy able to stimulate more spending and lending?

Well this man above have big issues, which no one man alone can resolved. Are you willing to cut rates to boost the economy? Or risk high unemployment due to the fact there is a recession? Or high inflation in the future? - Unemployment or Inflation? - Isn’t the choice obvious? He would rather risk high inflation rather than high unemployment. The only thing that matters now is does he have a back up plan before inflation comes back to haunt him in the future?
— See! I’ve got more questions rather than trying to find answers..
